Neck Pain
All day your neck has a major job of holding and balancing your head that weights approximately 10 lbs! Your neck and shoulders work hard. Even the smallest deviation in the relationships of the seven bones of your cervical spine (neck) can cause pain and reduced head and neck mobility.
Minor and Major
Generally, there are two different types of neck pain cases. Stiff or sore necks from fatigue muscles or strains are considered minor. For example sleeping in an awkward position can lead to neck pain. However, if these symptoms last for more than a day or so, occur frequently or were preceded by an accident or some type of injury, we consider it major and should see your chiropractic doctor as soon as possible.
Stress Response
Physical, emotional or chemical stress can affect the frequency and severity of neck pain. For many of us, the neck and shoulders are the
"weakest link in the chain" and so stress shows up here. A common stress reaction to anger, fear or depression is the tightening of the neck muscles. If left untreated, the muscle tightening can build up by-products that can cause muscle spasms which only increases the pain. Often emotional stress is the overlooked cause of major neck pain. Pain relievers might dull the pain, but it ignores the underlying cause!
Consult Our Office
Chiropractic treatment is based on the concept that restricted movements in the spine may lead to pain and reduced function. Specific chiropractic adjustments called spinal manipulation; we can help the spine "right itself". By restoring to the way your spine works, nerve involvement is reduced, pain eases and the body can heal. Because the nervous system is so related to the spine from an anatomical standpoint, restoring spinal structure integrity though chiropractic treatments can improve your health by reducing pressure on sensitive neurological tissue
